Do you understand how your wheel works? No? It’s to be expected, because it’s not something normal people think about. Mavic’s engineers are not normal people. They looked at how regular spokes work (they essentially suspend your hub from the top as the wheel rolls and are “unloaded” on the bottom) and tried to figure out a way to make them better. The result was the TraComp spoke, a hollow tube of carbon (think of the coolest drinking straw you’ve ever seen) that resists flex and is able to support the weight of the wheel from the bottom, not the top. That means less give as the wheel rotates, which means less flex, which means you go faster. It also means less stress on the wheel, which means these wheels will last a long time. Finally, the TraComp spokes resist twisting forces in the wheel, so when you mash the pedals, the Mavic R-SYS wheelset immediately responds the way you want it to - forward and in a big hurry.
