Ridley Noah Carbon Road Bike Frame
Description
Ridley calls the Noah the fastest road bike in the world. If you get up close and study the details of the Ridley Noah frameset, you’ll see all the work done to back up that claim. From tubing shapes to paint, everything on the Ridley Noah is all about speed.
With squished, aero-shaped tubes, the Ridley Noah would cut through the air just fine if Ridley had stopped there. They didn’t stop there, because that’s not how Ridley operates. Further aerodynamic enhancements come from Ridley’s R-Flow fork and seat stays, both of which allow your wheels to pass with less drag thanks to the large airfoils. Since even that wasn’t good enough for Ridley, they also treated ares of the Noah frameset with their R-Surface paint, which creates a bit of turbulence as air passes the paint in order to help the airflow follow the frame better and ultimately reduce drag even further.
Beyond the aerodynamic properties of the Ridley Noah frameset, another of its strengths lies in its stiffness. With a blend of 50 ton, 40 ton, and 30 ton high-modulus carbon fiber, the Ridley Noah frame packs plenty of stiffness, but keeps weight down. Like Ridley’s other road frames, the Noah uses an oversized lower headset bearing to provide precise handling and resist flex under heavy sprints. The Ridley Noah frame also uses an integrated seat mast, which not only adds stuffness, but also happens to reduce weight and drag. The bottom end is stiffened up thanks to the enormous seat stay/seat tube/bottom bracket/downtube juncture, which can handle any amount of power generated by us mere mortals (and even pros like Robbie McEwen.)
So the Ridley Noah is fast, but how’s the ride? Well, for starters, the Ridley Noah frameset uses the taller headtube found on Ridley’s other frames, so you can ride the Noah all day without discomfort in the neck and back. Furthermore, the way in which Ridley lays up the carbon fibers used in the Noah frameset offers up the classic Ridley road feel - responsive, but not harsh.
A note on Ridley sizing: Ridley uses a sloping top tube on their bikes, so in order to select the proper size, it’s important to pay attention to the effective top tube as opposed to the seat tube length. You really should focus on effective top tube on any frame, but it’s especially critical on sloping top tube frames.
