Rival was a great value in the past, but it’s even better for 2009. SRAM redesigned the Rival shifters to incorporate Zero Loss shifting, originally available only on Red. Zero Loss provides insanely fast front shifts, so you’ll never get caught out when it’s time to take off. The new SRAM Rival component group levers also feature Red’s dual cable routing, allowing you to run your cables either in front of or behind the handlebar, and the reach adjustment found on Red and Force. SRAM also upgraded the Rival crankset this year, using Open Core Technology to reduce weight and add stiffness. SRAM left well enough alone with Rival’s front and rear derailleurs, keeping the exact actuation and aluminum construction. Rival’s brakes are as powerful as Red and Force, but don’t use as much of the lightweight, expensive materials as the higher end groups. Rival’s cassette and chain use SRAM’s PowerGlide technology to provide smooth, quick shifts. For 2009, the SRAM Rival component group is hands down the best bargain in road components, and we’ve got it in stock and ready to go.
